After celebrating his 83rd birthday Sunday, Douglas Wayne Scheets passed peacefully form this life Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
A funeral service for Wayne will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in the Chapel at Azleland Memorial Park, 850 N. Cardinal Road in Azle. An hour of visitation will precede the service, beginning at 1 p.m.
Wayne, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Haskell April 13, 1942, to William Edgar and George Orrey Scheets.
Wayne married April Gunter July 2, 1964, and they celebrated over 60 years together. He held may jobs throughout his life, but his most cherished position was father to his sons, Billy Wayne and Michael.
Wanye climbed utility poles as a lineman for Tri-County Electric and Texas Electric before supervising the maintenance and upkeep of the many vehicles in the Texas Electric fleet. He could listen to your vehicle as you pulled into his driveway and tell you want was wrong. Wayne eventually started his own trucking business before retiring.
As a testament to his service to others, Wayne served as fire chief of the Briar Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
Wayne will be remembered for being kind, patient, honest and forthright. He will be missed by many family members and friends.
Wayne is predeceased by his parents; brothers Carroll, Wesley, George and Caleb; sisters Ruthie and Louise; and his son Billy Wayne.
He is survived by his wife April; son Michael and wife Teriann of Bedford; grandchildren Brianne and Austin of Bedford; sister Marie Harrison of Baird; and his beloved dog Dash.
