The Azle Independent School District sent out a notice to parents Friday afternoon, April 18, alleging that Azle High School employee Carlos Font Santiago, 31, had been arrested. Font was taken into custody the night before after a former student reported to police they had an inappropriate relationship with him several years ago. According to the district, Font has worked for Azle ISD for seven years as a Spanish teacher, junior varsity volleyball coach and assistant coach for various other sports. Font’s Linkedin profile shows him as having worked for the district since August 2019.
Last May, he was named head softball coach at AHS after former head coach Macy Pruitt was promoted to the position of assistant principal. He was previously an athletic trainer at Waxahachie ISD, an athletic learning assistant at Texas Christian University and is also a real estate agent active in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The notice stated Font will not return to any district property or have any contact with students while the legal process continues. The district did have any other details to share at the time due to the ongoing police investigation.
“The district takes allegations of inappropriate behavior between an employee and student seriously, and our top priority is to ensure a safe learning environment for our students,” Communications Director Amanda Moore said in an email to parents. “If any student, staff member, or parents have concerns or information regarding inappropriate contact, please reach out to the district through the Azle ISD Tip Line on our website or through our mobile app. Reports may be submitted anonymously.”
