Staff at the Azle Memorial Library stayed busy this Spring Break with a slew of fun daily events and activities for kids, teens and their families.
AML Youth Services Librarian Ava Bryant and Adult Services Librarian Rebecca Buchanan teamed up with Upper Trinity Groundwater Conservation District staff to kick off Monday, March 10 with demonstrations about ecology, water conservation and a build-your-own-terrarium activity. Education specialist Zane Bearden manned the UTGCD Groundwater Education Mobile and explained the hydrologic cycle, local geology, rainwater harvesting and more with engaging and interactive models and displays. One particularly big hit with the crowd was an in-depth model of the Upper Trinity Aquifer. The display came complete with rainfall, thunder and lightening effects to demonstrate how water flows through different strata over the course of the water cycle.
“Our aquifer model is basically a direct model of what we’re standing on right now, the outcrop of the Upper Trinity Aquifer system,” Bearden said. “What you’re watching here is that rainfall getting down into our soils, and then into our undefined aquifer. So, this is where you’re going to kind of see that water table, but you’re going to watch that water fall in between all of the different cracks and crevices.
