For the second year in a row, Azle High School senior Mariah Dillard has been named 5A Girls Wrestler of the Year by the Texas High School Wrestling Coaches Association. This accolade is decided by a vote of all the wrestling coaches in the state and comes on the heels of Dillard’s second state championship in her weight class.
AHS girls wrestling coach Jayson Conger noted Dillard is the third two-time state champion in Azle High School’s history.
Conger said Dillard, who boasts an 85-match win streak, is a team leader, and has had her black shirt in the wrestling program at AHS for two years.
