AZLE — A small plane crashed near the 4700 block of Silver View Lane Monday afternoon, Feb. 24. The Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a Starduster II and stated that it crashed in a field near Flying Oaks Airport around 2:45 p.m.

“I was working back there, cutting tree limbs and stuff and I hear, like a train, coming real low and then all of a sudden, he clips the top of my trees and boom,” a homeowner who wished not to be named said. “It sounded like a weed eater on wood, and then boom, down he went, probably 20-30 yards on the other side of the fence.”

The plane had two passengers, neither of which were seriously injured. After the crash, the plane was said to have burst into flames creating a small grass fire. First responders from various departments arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the blaze. The pilots and a representative from a nearby airport wished to not be pictured or identified but indicated they believed the crash was a result of a mechanical failure. The Federal Aviation Administration will be conducting an investigation of the crash over the coming days.
