LAKE WORTH — On Feb. 17, the Lake Worth ISD board of trustees recognized Howry STEAM Academy teacher Tina Pettigrew and library aid Jeremiah Pettigrew, who happen to be a married couple, for their hard work and dedication to the academy.
Howry STEAM Academy Principal Christi Allen presented the certificates to both individuals and remarked on their unwavering passion for their students.
First, Allen presented Tina Pettigrew with her certificate, citing the unmatched support and guidance she gives to her students.
“First, I want to acknowledge Ms. Tina Pettigrew, a dedicated educator whose leadership and mentorship are invaluable,” Allen said. “With less than two years of experience, she provides unwavering support, advice and guidance while modeling an efficient, structured classroom that meets the needs of multiple learners. She exemplifies a growth mindset, embracing change with a positive and solutions-oriented approach. Most importantly, she remains steadfast in her commitment to Howry’s vision and mission, ensuring that students receive high quality instruction in a nurturing environment.”
Then, Allen recognized Jeremiah Pettigrew for his willingness to volunteer and serve the school district.
“I want to recognize Mr. Pettigrew, our library clerk, whose impact is felt schoolwide,” Allen said. “After Ms. Pettigrew, came along Mr. Jeremiah Pettigrew. He started at Howry as a volunteer, which we sorely need, and fell in love with our school and just had to work there. He ensures that 100% of our students have continuous access to books through both scheduled class times and open checkout opportunities.
Allen continued describing Mr. Pettigrew’s welcoming attitude and problem-solving techniques.
“Each morning, he welcomes students with a smile, and he waves goodbye to our families at dismissal, helping create a warm and welcoming school environment,” Allen said. “His dedication to literacy extends beyond book circulation, as he’s established a book hospital to repair our well-loved books and conserve resources. He also promotes current topics of interest and integrates library lessons that complement our English language arts curriculum. ‘Mr. J,’ as we call him, exemplifies the heart of Harry STEAM Academy.”
