Springtown’s Project Celebration offers safe, fun alternative for students after prom

SPRINGTOWN — In just a few months, Springtown High School seniors will dance the night away at prom as a last hurrah before graduation. Prom is a night so many students look forward to and one they will remember for a lifetime.

But for most students, the night doesn’t end after everyone leaves prom. Most students will go to a friend’s house afterward for an afterparty. And kids will be kids; some after parties are not supervised or safe. That’s why parents of students who go to SHS host an annual after party to ensure the safety of its students.

Project Celebration is hosted by parents at the SHS gym and is a supervised yet a fun experience after prom. Jennie Carter is the PC ’25 president and wants to give students a night they’ll never forget.

“We plan on giving our seniors a night they will remember forever,” Carter said. “(We are) trying to motivate our seniors to come play and have a great night after prom instead of the alternative. We are excited to see it all come together for our awesome seniors.”

Carter explained why the event is an important alternative for students.

“The event will obviously be drug and alcohol free for seniors and their dates to have a great and safe night after prom,” Carter said. “It’s not a mandatory event and it’s strictly put on by parents of seniors for a night of fun.”

This big event takes work and lots of hours of volunteering. Carter says this has been in the works since last year.

“We have fundraised for this event since last May,” Carter said. “We’ve had many people and businesses within our community step up and do give backs. We’ve held bingo, a 5k, a pickleball tournament, Wild West, restaurant give backs, selling yard signs, flamingo flocking and concessions. Lots of volunteer hours to try and make this event special for these kids. We could not do this without their help and we are so grateful.”

The event will take place midnight until 6 a.m. Checkin is from 11 p.m. until midnight and students will be there for the entirety of the event.

“Once it strikes midnight the doors will lock and there will be no one allowed to enter or exit until 6 a.m.,” Carter said. “Technically it’s a ‘lockin’ type after party to ensure the safety of our students.”

Students will have both high school gyms as well as the auditorium to have fun. Students can change into more comfy clothes for the lock-in event. Activities will include a casino, jump houses, a DJ, nerf gun wars, a velcro wall, a mechanical bull and a magician.

As for oversight, a select group of adults will be watching the students.

“There will be board members and a select group of approved parents overseeing activities and events,” Carter said. “Volunteers will be parents from the board and any other parents that are wanting to help will have to be approved through the board. We stated at the beginning anyone wanting to help PC night would need (at least two events) of volunteering.”

Transportation will be provided for the students attending or students can park in the lot across from the gym doors. Attendance will be strictly for the seniors and their dates as specified on forms. No dates younger than juniors will be allowed. Students must check-in with their dates and provide a driver’s license for verification.

All seniors are required to send in their forms for entry. The deadline for those to be submitted is March 6. If sent in afterwards they will be denied entry.
