Brundrett won’t seek another term; Goode files for mayor seat

AZLE — Alan Brundrett, Azle’s mayor of nearly 14 years, has announced he will not run for re-election this May. Brundrett has spent 22 years in total serving on the Azle City Council. He is also the owner of Turkey Mountain Feed Store on Silver Creek Road.

In a public announcement over social media, Brundrett said he felt a deep sense of pride and gratitude when reflecting on his accomplishments. The mayor said the recent death of his wife, Jennifer, has led him to reevaluate his priorities and decide not to run again for mayor. Despite stepping down from political office, Brundrett said he will remain committed to helping the community by supporting local nonprofits.

“Azle has always been more than just a city to me — it is my home, and it has been my greatest privilege to contribute to its growth and improvement over these many years. We’ve seen our city evolve, with both triumphs and challenges, and through it all, I’ve been committed to making Azle a better place for its citizens and future generations,” Brundrett said.

“While I will greatly miss my involvement in the day-to-day affairs of our city, I feel it is time for me to step back and allow new leadership to take the reins. My decision is rooted in a need to focus more on my family and myself during this next chapter of my life.”

Since becoming mayor in May 2011, Azle’s population has grown by about 4,000 people. Brundrett has overseen the city through countless changes, including the recent creation of Azle’s first food truck park and the new comprehensive master plan which will act as a framework for the city’s development for the next 20 years. Each spring and fall he is also involved in the Servolution Network’s Good Neighbors Blitzes.

Randa Goode

Azle Mayor Pro Tem Randa Goode is, so far, the only candidate who has filed to run for mayor in the upcoming May election. Goode joined the council after being elected in May 2021 and became mayor pro tem the following year. Goode is a vice president at the local Pinnacle Bank branch and has been heavily involved in community beautification and other efforts.

“I am honored to announce my candidacy for mayor of Azle,” Goode said in an email to the Tri-County Reporter.

“Over the past several years of serving on the Azle City Council as mayor pro tem, we have made significant strides in establishing ordinances to preserve the character of our city and ensure responsible growth. The recent completion of the comprehensive master plan, a major milestone for Azle, is one of the accomplishments I am most proud of initiating. City council, along with numerous citizens and business owners, collaborated to develop this plan, creating a roadmap for growth that reflects the Azle we envision and the values we need to preserve. If elected as mayor, I look forward to continuing to serve our community, and I will work to ensure this plan is fully utilized to foster Azle’s growth and prosperity while protecting our cherished hometown charm, character and feel.”

Josh Berry, whose listed occupation is program quality engineer, has filed with the city to run for Azle City Council Place 4, Goode’s current seat.

Current councilmember Stacy Peek has also filed to run again for her Place 3 seat.
